BLACK NATAVITY
By Langston Huges
Directed and Adabted by Shontae K. White
Nov. 30th-Dec.9th, 2012
Auditions: Oct.14-15 @ 7pm
This gospel "song play" is a joyful retelling of story of the birth of Christ in dialogue, narrative, pantomime, gospel song and folk spirituals. The first half retells the Nativity story in the down-home verse of the black poet Langston Hughes, in familiar carols like "Joy to the World," in beloved black spirituals like "Go Tell It on The Mountain," and through interpretive modern dance. The second half will take you through a modern spiritual journey to have you on your feet and giving the praises due, in celebrating the real reason for the season thru popular gospel songs like " I Need You to Survive" and " I Know Been Changed." If you've never attended this truly uplifting danced, sung and preached celebration, be aware: You don't have to be of any particular race or religion to get into the spirit. You will not want to miss this.
